“We cannot let problems at FIFA make us cynical about the game.” asserts Prince Ali Al Hussein of Jordan speaking at a National Press Club luncheon, December 4, 2015. The prince, discussing problems within the organization and the sport of football or soccer as it is known in the U.S. highlighted the sports ability to change lives and bridge cultures.
The prince concluded his opening remarks stating, “Football is more than just a game.” Making his bid for the presidency of the organization, Prince Al Hussein continued, “It deserves a governing body worthy of respect.”
President John Hughes asked questions posed by members and guests. Though one questioner asked if his family ties would be a factor, Prince Al Hussein deferred declaring, “There is no royalty in football.”
